Ingredients
Scale
- 8 slices thick-cut bread (brioche, challah, or your choice)
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tbsp granulated sugar
- Pinch of salt
- 2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced
- Butter or oil, for cooking
- Optional toppings: maple syrup, powdered sugar, whipped cream, strawberry sauce or compote
Instructions
- In a shallow bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, sugar, and a pinch of salt until fully combined.
- Lay bread slices flat. For stuffed French toast, spread cream cheese or mascarpone and layer with sliced strawberries between two slices.
- Dip each bread slice into the custard mixture, soaking for 10–15 seconds per side.
- Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and melt butter or oil.
- Cook soaked bread for 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown. Cover briefly if making stuffed French toast.
- Top with fresh strawberries and optional toppings like maple syrup or powdered sugar.
- Serve immediately while warm.
Notes
- Use thick-cut bread for better texture.
- Do not over-soak the bread to prevent sogginess.
- For a dairy-free option, substitute milk with almond or oat milk.
- Leftovers can be stored in the fridge and reheated in a toaster or oven.
