Ingredients
Scale
- 1 tablespoon mayonnaise
- 1 teaspoon mustard
- 2 teaspoons ketchup
- 2 teaspoons pickle juice
- 1/2 tablespoon softened butter
- 1 potato hamburger bun
- 1/4 pound ground beef
- 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 3 refrigerated pickle slices
- 1 slice American cheese
Instructions
- Mix mayonnaise, mustard, ketchup, and pickle juice in a small bowl. Set the sauce aside.
- Butter the outside of the top and bottom bun halves. Place them butter-side down in a hot skillet. Press to flatten and toast for about 1 minute. Flip and toast the other side for 30 seconds, pressing again. Set the toasted buns aside, cut sides down.
- Spread your desired amount of sauce on the cut sides of the toasted buns.
- Divide the ground beef into two balls. Place them in the hot skillet. Use two spatulas to press each ball into a very thin patty. Season the patties with salt and pepper.
- Cook the patties without moving them until a golden brown crust forms and you see small holes around the edges.
- Carefully lift one patty from the pan with a spatula. Place 3 pickle slices in the pan and flip the lifted patty on top of them.
- Top that patty with the cheese slice. Flip the second patty on top of the cheese to form a stack.
- Scrape the burger stack from the skillet and place it on the bottom bun half.
- Place the top bun on the stack, cut side up. Return the whole assembled burger to the skillet.
- Cook and press each side of the burger for about 15 seconds. Serve immediately.
Notes
- Use a firm, refrigerated pickle like Grillos® for best results.
- Pressing the buns and patties creates a crispier texture.
- Work quickly once the patties are cooked to keep the cheese melted.
- You can adjust the amount of sauce to your taste.
