A burger with a unique toasted pickle crust, featuring a special sauce and thin, crispy beef patties.

  • Total Time: 10 minutes
  • Yield: 1 burger 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon mustard
  • 2 teaspoons ketchup
  • 2 teaspoons pickle juice
  • 1/2 tablespoon softened butter
  • 1 potato hamburger bun
  • 1/4 pound ground beef
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 3 refrigerated pickle slices
  • 1 slice American cheese

Instructions

  1. Mix mayonnaise, mustard, ketchup, and pickle juice in a small bowl. Set the sauce aside.
  2. Butter the outside of the top and bottom bun halves. Place them butter-side down in a hot skillet. Press to flatten and toast for about 1 minute. Flip and toast the other side for 30 seconds, pressing again. Set the toasted buns aside, cut sides down.
  3. Spread your desired amount of sauce on the cut sides of the toasted buns.
  4. Divide the ground beef into two balls. Place them in the hot skillet. Use two spatulas to press each ball into a very thin patty. Season the patties with salt and pepper.
  5. Cook the patties without moving them until a golden brown crust forms and you see small holes around the edges.
  6. Carefully lift one patty from the pan with a spatula. Place 3 pickle slices in the pan and flip the lifted patty on top of them.
  7. Top that patty with the cheese slice. Flip the second patty on top of the cheese to form a stack.
  8. Scrape the burger stack from the skillet and place it on the bottom bun half.
  9. Place the top bun on the stack, cut side up. Return the whole assembled burger to the skillet.
  10. Cook and press each side of the burger for about 15 seconds. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Use a firm, refrigerated pickle like Grillos® for best results.
  • Pressing the buns and patties creates a crispier texture.
  • Work quickly once the patties are cooked to keep the cheese melted.
  • You can adjust the amount of sauce to your taste.
