Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small yellow onion, peeled and diced
  • 1 small green bell pepper, seeded and diced
  • 1 ½ cups fresh mushrooms, diced
  • ½ cup beef broth
  • 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 Tablespoon cornstarch
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 6 slices provolone cheese
  • 4 hamburger buns

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, over medium heat, add ground beef, diced onion, diced green bell pepper, and diced mushrooms.
  2. Break up the ground beef and sauté until the meat is browned and vegetables are soft. Drain and discard any fat.
  3. In a small mixing bowl, whisk together beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.
  4. Pour the beef broth mixture into the skillet with the ground beef mixture.
  5. Let the mixture simmer over low heat for 5-6 minutes, until the broth thickens slightly.
  6. Check seasoning and adjust if needed.
  7. Mix in provolone cheese and stir until melted and blended.
  8. Place the meat on hamburger buns and serve.

Notes

  • Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Serve with a fork or eat as a sandwich.
  • For a slow cooker version, follow the same steps but cook on low for 4-6 hours.
