Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • ⅓ cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • Salt & pepper, to taste
  • 1 Tbsp olive oil
  • 1 medium yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 Tbsp butter
  • 2 Tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1½ cups beef broth
  • Optional: browning sauce or additional Worcestershire for deeper flavor

Instructions

  1. Combine ground beef, panko, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Mix lightly and shape into 4 patties.
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook patties for 2–3 minutes per side until browned but not fully cooked. Remove and keep warm.
  3. Add onions and butter to the skillet. Cook until soft and caramelized, about 4–5 minutes.
  4. Sprinkle flour over onions, stir for 30 seconds, then gradually whisk in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer until gravy thickens slightly.
  5. Return patties to skillet, spoon gravy over them, cover, and cook on low heat for 5 minutes or until done.
  6. Adjust seasoning and serve hot.

Notes

  • Do not overmix the beef to keep patties tender.
  • Let the gravy simmer to thicken properly.
  • Serve with mashed potatoes or rice.
