  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 (15 ounce) cans tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon white sugar, or to taste
  • 1 teaspoon garlic salt, or to taste
  • 1 teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • 1 (8 ounce) package egg noodles
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 3 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 large white onion, finely diced
  • ½ cup shredded sharp Cheddar cheese, or more to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook and stir ground beef until browned and crumbly, 5 to 7 minutes. Drain grease.
  2. Mix tomato sauce, sugar, garlic salt, and salt into the beef. Simmer for 20 minutes. Cover and set aside.
  3. Boil egg noodles in salted water until al dente, 7 to 9 minutes. Drain.
  4. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch casserole dish.
  5. Mix sour cream, cream cheese, and onion in a bowl.
  6. Layer half the noodles, half the sour cream mixture, and half the beef in the dish. Repeat layers.
  7. Sprinkle Cheddar cheese on top.
  8. Bake until cheese is melted and golden, 25 to 30 minutes.

Notes

  • Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days.
  • Let casserole cool for 10 minutes before serving.
  • Drain beef well to prevent a watery texture.
