A comforting and cheesy ground beef and potato casserole layered with seasoned beef, potatoes, and melted cheese.

  • Total Time: 65 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 45 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ cup beef broth
  • ¼ cup milk (optional)
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Thinly slice the potatoes to ¼-inch thickness.
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté onions and garlic until fragrant.
  3. Add ground beef, season with Italian seasoning, paprika, salt, and pepper, and cook until browned.
  4. Grease a baking dish and layer half of the potatoes. Spread half of the cooked beef on top. Sprinkle half of the cheddar cheese.
  5. Repeat the layers, then pour beef broth (and milk, if using) over the top.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 35-40 minutes.
  7. Remove foil, top with Parmesan cheese, and bake uncovered for 10 more minutes until golden brown.
  8. Let it rest for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley.

Notes

  • For crispier potatoes, parboil them for 5 minutes before layering.
  • Substitute beef broth with vegetable broth for a lighter taste.
  • Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days.
