Cheesy Sloppy Joe Toasts combine garlic bread, savory ground beef, and melted mozzarella for a quick and satisfying meal.

  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 8 toasts 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 slices frozen Texas Toast garlic bread
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • ½ cup yellow onion, diced
  • ½ teaspoon Kosher salt, plus more to taste
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper, plus more to taste
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Fresh parsley, chopped for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F. Line a large rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper. Set aside.
  2. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef, and cook until no longer pink, about 4 to 5 minutes. Drain the excess grease from the skillet.
  3. Add the butter, onions, salt, and pepper to the skillet and saute for 2 to 3 minutes or until the onions are soft and translucent.
  4. Stir in the brown sugar, yellow mustard, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, and Italian seasoning. Cook for 3 to 4 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened.
  5. While the sauce is cooking, place the frozen Texas Toast onto the prepared baking sheet. Bake in preheated oven for 6 minutes.
  6. Remove the baking sheet from the oven and evenly distribute the sloppy Joe mixture on top of the Texas Toast.
  7. Top each toast with shredded mozzarella cheese, about 1/8 cup each. Place the baking sheet back into the oven for 3 to 4 minutes or until the cheese has melted.
  8. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Use different bread like sourdough or ciabatta if preferred.
  • Toast the bread slightly longer to prevent sogginess.
  • Mozzarella melts best, but cheddar or Monterey Jack work too.
  • Prepare the meat mixture ahead and refrigerate for up to 2 days.
