- 8 cups peeled and sliced apples (about 8 medium-sized apples)

- 1 cup brown sugar
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 1 ½ cups rolled oats
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt
- 2 sticks (1 cup) salted butter (chilled or frozen)
- Vanilla ice cream (optional, for serving)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F. Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
- Melt butter in a large sauté pan over medium heat. Add apples and stir to coat.
- Mix water and cornstarch in a small bowl. Stir slurry, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt into apples. Reduce heat and cook for 5-7 minutes until softened. Remove from heat.
- Whisk flour, brown sugar, granulated sugar, oats, and salt in a large bowl.
- Grate frozen butter into the flour mixture. Combine until crumbly.
- Press half the crumb mixture into the pan. Layer apples on top, then sprinkle remaining crumbs and press lightly.
- Bake for 30 minutes. Increase oven to 425°F and bake for another 15 minutes until golden brown.
- Cool before cutting. Serve with vanilla ice cream if desired.

- Use firm apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp.
- Chill the butter for a crispier crust.
- Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for longer storage.
